Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top on Van Wilks
“I call attention to a dear friend of mine and great, great guitar player from Austin, Mr Van Wilks. Early on, I discovered my fascination with his particular playing style. As we became pals, we started finding even more guitar-related common ground, for instance, Ida Presti. The young gal from France who became inspirational in ways that words cannot express.
“Listen to her version of Clair De Lune and you’ll know what I mean. She married another guitar player, between the work she was doing and what he did, those two brought the six-string Spanish guitar into another realm. So here we have a friendship with Van Wilks in Austin, Texas and together we’re discovering Ida’s work…”
Well so happens I have Ida's guitar on a permanent loan.

Steve York R.I.P

English bass player.

Steve and his wife Lisa were based in Mexico. His U.S medical insurance company went bankrupt and he could no longer pay for his cancer treatment...He'd set up a fund and I tried to see if he could get emergency assistance...then both he and Lisa caught Covid. Steve sent Lisa to the hospital to get oxygen treatment, knowing that they only had the funds left to pay for one of them. Upon her return, Lisa found Steve passed away with an empty box of painkillers beside him. We had plans to continue writing and recording tracks...'Waving Blues' is his last recording. During our conversations, I was always eager to hear his stories about the music business and life in general.

Steve's musical legacy can be heard on performances with:

Elkie Brooks, Marianne Faithfull, Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Ringo Starr, Pete Townshend, Robert Palmer, Manfred Mann, Joan Armatrading, Gary Moore, Arthur Brown, Grace Jones, Adrian Legg, Chris Jagger, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Dr John, Chuck Berry,Bo Diddley, Laura Branigan, Leiber & Stoller, The Drifters, The Platters, The Coasters, Rufus Thomas, Martha & the Vandellas,  Shirelles,  Charlie Musselwhite, Joe King Carrasco.
